Private landlords could pay a public amenities tax on rents received, to fund public baths and facilities for homeless people

There is a rising problem of homelessness in the UK because the low availability of public housing and high private rental prices are increasing the number of homeless people in Britain.

Private landlords should have to pay the Government a hefty tax from their profits, and the funds should be used to pay for the construction and running of public baths and kitchens open to the general public.

Long ago, there used to be public baths in many towns and cities in the UK. By the nineteen sixties, they were mostly used for the public swimming pool. Originally, though, they were used more for personal hygiene and laundry, as things like bathrooms and toilets did not exist in the low-cost working class housing they lived in.

Now, in the twenty-first century, you could add public cooking facilities so that tenants in sub-standard private accommodation and people who are homeless or quasi-homeless can remedy their needs in public-run community centers.

How about that for a thought?
